Yes, if it is a very thin wire with a metal coupling on the end, that would be the antenna wire.

With one antenna wire, this would be the best card you can install...

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

The card has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router and an excellent signal.

You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express.

I see some Intel 3165 cards listed on the eBay listings, so don't buy those.

On the Ali Express listings, make sure the card has the HP Part # of 915620-001.

Thanks Paul, you're cool.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

You're very welcome.

Oops, one last question. I assume the metal coupling at the end of the antenna wire plugs into the adapter somewhere?

HP Recommended

That is correct.

If you buy the card I recommended, here is a picture of it.

The antenna connector snaps over that round metal terminal on the upper right side of the Wi-Fi card.

Center it over the terminal, push down on it, and it should snap in place.

I hope they left the hold down screw the for the card.

The screw goes where that curved indent is at the top of the card.

Unfortunately there is no screw there. Is there a part number for it?

HP Recommended

No, there isn't, but in chapter 6, page 46 of the service manual where it provides the Wifi card removal and replacement procedure, it indicates the screw size is a PM2.0×3.0 screw.

That stands for Philips Metric 2.0 mm in diameter x 3.0 mm long.

This kit looks like it contains the screw size that you need, or you can go to Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes or your favorite hardware store and see if they have any for sale.

Another thing you can do is visit your local PC repair shop and see if they have any to give or sell to you.

Okay I have everything in and the laptop works great except for one thing. The audio and video in not quite synced when I watch a youtube video. It's just a little off.  Ii went and updated all of the drivers through windows updates and through a free trial of CCleaner which has a driver updater on its free trial version. Any suggestions?
