Hardrive replacement

Hey guys I need to replace my hardrive on my 17-bs0xx laptop and was looking into replacing it with a SSD but don't know which ones would be compatible and how is the installation process? Any suggestions on SSD or even HDD it HDD is easier? Thanks in advance.

Hi:

Here is a link to a 500 GB 2.5" SSD which would be a direct swap and it has the best performance for the price.

It comes in other sizes too.

Your notebook should be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool.

If your PC is not working, use another Windows PC with W7 64 bit or newer and a 32 GB USB flash drive, to make a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Firstly please use the manual called Maintenance and Service Guide on the following link

It will show you many things including how to replace HDD (page 43). I don't know what is your 17-bs0xx but in general you can replace existing HDD with a 2.5" SATA SSD from reputable vendors.

The series supports M.2 SATA SSD therefore you can also add M.2 SATA SSD to your machine using

   Or similar from reputable vendors.

My computer isn't working and I don't have access to another computer. How else would I be able to get w10?

I would see if you can get a friend to make the installation media for you, or you can order recovery media from HP at the link below, last item on the page.

You're looking at around $50 - $60 bucks for the recovery media, so it would behoove you to find a way to make it yourself.

If I were to copy it from a friend's PC would I need any sort of activation key to run windows 10 on my computer or no? Will this affect his PC at all? Sorry it's my first time doing this. Thanks in advance.

Hi:

If you use a friend's PC to create the recovery media using the cloud recovery tool, it will have no effect on that PC.

After the media has been successfully created, you can uninstall the program from the PC.

Also the PC does not have to be a HP PC.  I have used a Dell PC to create the media.

It can also be a laptop or desktop PC.

When you use the recovery media you created with the cloud recovery tool, you will not need any Windows product key.
