Pavilion 15-bc513tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm having trouble with the hardware, specifically with the keyboard. My "Left Shift + c" and "Right Shift + e" isn't working. Also the keyboard thinks that I'm holding down the Windows Button key and when I press 'r' or 'l' or 'p', run opens up or screen is locked or project sidebar opens up respectively. Microsoft Edge keeps popping up with Bing page even without pressing anything and if I'm not closing the tabs it exceeds 30-40 tabs. I have tried every possible solution (Sticky Keys are off, Tried running Laptop in clean boot mode, manually updated drivers, uninstalled and re-installed drivers, tried disabling services and startups and then restarted in safe mode) but nothing seems to work. Please tell me how to proceed.

To all those people who might be facing the same or similar issue, if you have followed all the initial hardware checks, try running a quick scan of your device. The problem might be due to any malware or other malicious files lingering somewhere in your device.

The problem I was facing was caused by a malware which was feeding off of my Chrome Browser, and a PUP on the same Browser's AppData file. I used SpyHunter which detected those malicious files for me and then I got rid of those files respectively. I'll be glad if this helps out anyone else. Thank You.

Welcome to the HP support community.

Did you drop liquid or have any accidents with the keyboard?

Did you check with an alternate user account or an external keyboard to check if all the keys on that work?

I recommend the below steps:

Clean the keyboard with compressed air (blow compressed air in the gaps between keys). This removes some lint and dust.

Shut down the laptop, remove the battery and cable for a moment, press and hold the start button for 60 seconds

Replace the battery, restart the notebook,

if the issue persists, change the keyboard layout and check if it works: Click here for steps.

Also, run a hardware test to identify any issues with the keyboard: Click here for details (Interactive test) under component tests - keyboard.

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

Thank You for your quick response. Really appreciate you taking out the time. Although it wasn't the case that I had dropped any liquid or had any other accidents ( I would have mentioned if there were any), I was finally able to resolve the issue after much troubleshooting. The problem was caused by a malware which was feeding off of my Chrome Browser, and a PUP on the same Browser AppData file. I used SpyHunter which detected those malicious files for me and then I got rid of those files respectively. That Hardware test didn't really help me even in testing my keyboard because there are no steps to follow if your keyboard isn't working. Nevertheless, appreciate your efforts!
