I have owned a ZBook Firefly 14 inch G10 A (model 9H9D1AT#ABA) for a few years. It did not come with a smart card reader or NFC reader, but I recently decided that I'd like to have those features. So I purchased the following parts from eBay and installed them:
* HP Smart Card reader (part N02323-001)
* HP NFC reader (M08706-001)
* HP touchpad with NFC antenna (N15438-001)
All components are physically connected to the appropriate headers on the motherboard, but when I enter BIOS setup, I can't see any options to enable the Smart Card or NFC modules.
I did some research on this, and it looks like there are two flags in my Feature Byte which explicitly disable these modules, since they weren't included from the factory. I contacted HP support online chat about this, but the technician didn't seem to understand my request.
I have zero desire to spend several thousand dollars on a brand new laptop just to be able to use hardware that should be plug-and-play.
Has anyone actually succeeded in having HP (or an authorized service provider) updating the Feature Byte to activate those components?
Thanks!
