Hello, everybody. I own a laptop which lately has been facing a problem with VRM which heats, and thus laptop power goes down, it doesn't switch on, until the laptop's accumulator is unmounted. Is it 100% hardware problem and I need to take it to a repair service store, or it could be also something with firmware ?

@Dm_Am, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Heating\Power problem(VRM throttling)!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I hear you—it’s tough when your laptop suddenly goes quiet and refuses to wake up unless you remove the battery. The heating you mention around the VRM area usually does point to a hardware strain, but before we assume the worst, let’s try a few things you can do at home:

Hard reset – Remove the power adapter, battery (if removable), and press the power button for 15–20 seconds. Then reconnect only the adapter and test.

BIOS & drivers update – If your laptop boots, check HP Support Assistant for the latest BIOS and chipset updates. Sometimes firmware helps regulate power delivery better.

Thermal check – Make sure the vents are clear, fans are spinning, and the laptop is on a hard surface, not cloth or a bed.

Battery isolation test – Try running only on AC power without the battery, and see if the issue repeats.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello! Thank you for your reply! I would certainly click "Accept as solution button" if any of that things could have worked. Unfortunately, but hard reset works only for some 15-20 minutes, until overheated. The same about removing battery and testing with AC power only. Also, I have updated my BIOS firmware about 3 weeks ago, it could not solve either. As for thermal stuff it's okay, fans and vents are cleaned, so CPU and GPU temperature is ok.
I'm 90% sure that it is a hardware problem, maybe VRM module was damaged due to higher than capable voltage, maybe something else. Unfortunately I don't have enough knowledge to test it using a multimeter.
Maybe you can advise me some repair service centers in Germany for consumer and gaming laptops? I'm currently located in Germany, tried to contact with Ariston GmBH, but they only serve business PCs.
Thank you in advance!
