My [HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14] has been heating up since I bought it, I don't even use any heavy software, it becomes so hot for no reason. Please can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Hi @Bloomchang,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the heating issue with your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14.

Check for Background Processes:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and look for any processes that are using a high percentage of your CPU or memory. If you find any, consider closing them or investigating further.

Update Your System:

  • Ensure that your Windows operating system, BIOS, and all drivers are up to date. You can use the HP Support Assistant to check for updates.

Check for Dust and Blockages:

  • Dust can accumulate inside the laptop and block airflow. Use a can of compressed air to blow out dust from the vents and cooling fans.

Adjust Power Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options. Select a balanced or power saver plan, and click on "Change plan settings". Under "Change advanced power settings", make sure the settings for processor power management are set to a lower maximum processor state (e.g., 80-90%).

Use a Cooling Pad:

  • A cooling pad can help keep your laptop temperature down, especially during prolonged use.

Reduce Unnecessary Startup Programs:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, go to the "Startup" tab, and disable programs that you don't need to run at startup.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to run a system test. This can help identify if there's a hardware issue causing the overheating.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to ensure there is no malware causing your system to overheat.

Adjust System Performance Settings:

  • Right-click on This PC, select Properties, then Advanced system settings. Under the "Advanced" tab, click on Settings under Performance, and select Adjust for best performance.

Monitor Temperatures:

  • Use software like HWMonitor or Core Temp to monitor your laptop’s temperature. This can help you identify if the laptop is overheating under specific conditions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
