Help Me Determine RAM & SSD Upgradeability – HP Pavilion x360 14-ek0000 (54B24AV)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to determine the upgradeability of my laptop.  I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade this laptop or eventually replace it, so I'd like to confirm the hardware capabilities before purchasing any components.

Laptop information:

• Model: HP Pavilion x360 14-inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC
• Series: 14-ek0000
• Product Number: 54B24AV
• Processor: Intel Core i3-1215U
• Current Memory: 8 GB DDR4-3200 MHz
• Current Storage: 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD

According to HP Support Assistant, my system reports:

• Memory Slot 1: 4 GB SK Hynix DDR4-3200
• Memory Slot 2: 4 GB SK Hynix DDR4-3200

However, the HP Maintenance and Service Guide for the 14-ek0000 series appears to indicate that the memory is onboard/non-serviceable, while the product specifications state "dual-channel, up to 16 GB DDR4-3200 MHz."

Could someone clarify the following for my exact configuration (54B24AV)?

1. Is the RAM user-upgradeable, or is it soldered to the motherboard?
2. If it is upgradeable, what is the maximum supported RAM?
3. If it is not upgradeable, does HP Support Assistant report logical memory channels as "Memory Slot 1" and "Memory Slot 2" rather than physical SO-DIMM slots?
4. Is the M.2 NVMe SSD user-replaceable, and if so, is there a practical maximum SSD capacity (1 TB, 2 TB, etc.)?

Hi:

The memory is an integral part of the motherboard and cannot be upgraded.

Motherboards come configured with either 8 GB or 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory.

You can install a M.2 NVMe SSD in your notebook in any capacity you want as long as the drive is single-sided so that it fits in the M.2 slot.
