Hi Guys, I have an HP Elitebook 8460p Laptop (480GB SSD, Windows 10, 8GB RAM) .
My issue(s) is this: I know my SSD is shot, it is finished, it's not working, and I have had it seen by an independent specialist & he confirmed what I already suspected. I haven't proceeded with a replacement of the SSD until I thought I would ask this community a few questions:
- Can I buy a replacement 480GB SSD (with Windows 10 pre-installed) from eBay and replace my broken one with the new one? although I do know I will lose all my files that are on my broken SSD in my Laptop, is replacing like-for-like an option with Solid State Drives (SSDs)?
At the same time, I am not sure which version of Windows 10 I have installed on my Laptop - I think it's W10 Pro, but I'm not 100% sure, is there any way I can know without properly booting up the computer into Desktop mode? let me know what I can do here please guys.
Or, would it be advisable to buy a replacement 480GB SSD and upload a Linux OS myself onto my HP Notebook Laptop?
Please let me know my options available to me here guys, your knowledge and support in this matter would be greatly appreciated & very much valued, my Laptop is still something I do want to reuse again and you expertise in this matter would be very welcome, Thank you.
Kind Regards

1. You can install 1TB or more on your machine using
https://www.samsung.com/au/memory-storage/sata-ssd/870-evo-2tb-sata-3-2-5-ssd-mz-77e2t0bw/
2. Why you have yo buy pre-installed Windows 10 drive ? This may NOT work at all. You can re-install Windows 10 on new SSD because the Windows 10 key is in BIOS of your machine, not on HDD/SSD. Just use the following instructions to build a new installation media
https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10
3. Depending on the existing key in BIOS, it will set Windows 10 Pro or Home for you.
Regards.
