I just got my computer earlier today and right of the bat I noticed a high pitched noise from the fan as soon as I started the computer. Even my 6 year old computer does not make that much noise. I'm okay with normal noise from the fan when it's working. But this sound is constant and I even hear it clearly when playing videos. Is there anything to do with that? If not, i might have to return it.

Hi @Lilleeirin

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try these steps to update the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Also, download and install the BIOS from this link.

If the issue still persists, please perform an extensive test -

1) Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2) Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3) On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
4) Click Extensive Test.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you so much for your help, unfortunately, after going through all the steps you suggested, it didn't change anything. I do think it's a manufacturing issue and will be returning my computer tomorrow.

@Lilleeirin

Appreciate you trying the steps. This looks like a hardware issue. Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your computer.

Have a great day!
