HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab01
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've tried to use the HP Parts search tool, but it's extremely cumbersome.  While I can find my existing DVD drive in the catalog, it will not show me any compatible Blu-ray equivalent drive.  There must be a compatible part out there, but I've gotten no help on this.  Not even my HP notebook manual  shows a Blu-ray drive.

Any suggestions of how I can find out what drive part would be compatible?  Here are the numbers for my existing DVD drive:

HP replacement part: 809328-001

HP mPC PN: 700577-6C2
CT: 7EFPL017X8EB1A

Thank you!

Hi:

You're missing some of the notebook model number you posted.

In any event, if you look at chapter 3, page 23 of the service manual below, you will find there is one blue ray drive listed with the HP part number.

The Intel service manual shows the same...

Blu-ray Disc R/RW with SuperMulti Drive

For use in silver models

809334-001

Thank you, Paul!  I somehow missed this.  I'd downloaded the same service manual and somehow didn't see it in that section.  Part 809334-001.

I looked it up and... yikes, it's not a commonly found drive.  Whereas NOS examples of similar BD drives are available for around $50 USD, this one is showing an alarming price of over $300... That's more than half the value of my notebook!

I wonder if there's a compatible equivalent model available for less.

You're very welcome.

Yikes!  $337.88?

I'd just get an external USB BR drive and use that when the need arose to watch a BR movie.
