How do I install memory into the Pavilion 17z-F (17z-F200, product L2H13AV) series laptops?
HP appears to have no maintenance guide available for this model series. What's up with that?
Please, do not offer the generic (and out-of-date) Pavilion 17 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide. It does not appear to apply to the 17z-F series. This guide instructs to remove the bottom service panel which I could have figured that out on my own. However, the 17z-F series does not appear to have any removable panels at all. I took an up-close look at the Pavilion 17z-F100. And, it does not have any removable panels on the underside, except for the battery. So, I presume the 17z-F200 to be the same.
I am a computer technician. And, this is the first laptop I have seen without any service panels. I am probably going to have to disassemble the entire outer-shell to install memory (or to replace the hard disk drive once the time comes). But, every laptop I have worked on in the past had its own special array of hidden screws or special tricks for disassembly. So, having a maintenance guide is a necessity to avoid damaging plastic mounts, clips, guides, etc.

How about this one:
Don't get me started on this. It's one of my pet peeves, too. HP is not the only one doing this. Acer and Toshiba, etc. also are selling "closed" systems now. I hate it. I will absolutely never knowingly buy one but I am spending a lot of time here answering questions just like this. Good luck and let us know how you do. Sounds like you will be fine.

Thank you, Huffer. The guide you suggested appears to be the one. It includes up front general instructions for disassembling the base, both top and bottom, which appears to apply to any internal changes/repairs, except for the optical drive.
I'm going to have to set aside some time for what should have been a 5-minute task, including opening the packaging for the memory module. But, I'll probably record an instructional video of the disassembly process. Hopefully, it will be found by eager tinkerers more easily than the up-to-date manual you dug up.

This PC and the Change in attitude of HP has made certain that I never buy again. I did get the memory installed and a new 500GB SDD after getting the service manual (that is a MUST!) Do be careful, read the manual well as the ribbon cables are very slim at the contacts and the big keyboard cable has to be set just right or you will lose the KB. So too is the HD cable, it is a one sided job and easy to put in the wrong way, all of the cables are. Special warning, the cable latches (little flip down latches) are delicate and will not take many latch motions and, if you destroy one, goodbye system board! They all have to latch or the board is useless mainly, With the KB, you can buy a USB based kB and Mouse so you can get arounds that but do be gentle with those latches. No, I did NOT break one, ha ha .
I have 3 HP Laptops, 2 tablets and an HP printer. How many are on my future purchase lists: 0.0. The printer threatened to be totally unusable after I refilled the cartridge, the Photo Creations software is a bait and switch to try to force me to buy other services and products. It does not work, just tells you that you have to mortgage your kids to use it in a download. I get retiree discounts but I will not use even that break. Thank you but no thanks. In legal litigation, HP bought the judge rather than pay, some states are well known for judges for rent and the new SCOTUS chief wrote the winning opinion that makes class actions a thing of the past and is a part of all terms and conditions. I have gone back to building my own from scratch until a manufacturer comes along with a DIY kit.
Good luck and Bless,
