Open HP Support Assistant. If the laptop was refurbished officially by HP and sold as refurbished then the Product Number will have an "R" at the end. I happen to be sending this on an HP Zbook 15 G3 Mobile workstation which I bought from HP as a refurb and the Product Number is V2W05UTR
Non refurbished version has no R at the end.
Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

HP has a whole section on their website where they offer "refurbished" computers and printers to the public. These are sold directly by HP and carry some warranty like usually 90 days. They can be returns which HP techs thoroughly check over, reload original software, etc. or they can actually be overstock "new" product that has sat on a shelf too long and is sold for a lower price with less warranty exposure. Refurbished computers bought straight from the manufacturer (Dell and Lenovo also have excellent refurb programs) can be one of the best bargains out there if you know what to look for.
Also the word "refurbished" is tossed around by 3rd party sellers not HP itself who are really selling "used" goods as on eBay. "Seller refurbished" is a category on eBay but has no well-defined meaning. It can be nothing more than they loaded a new copy of Windows onto it sometimes not even that. 3rd party sellers can even buy up refurbished units from HP and resell them. The "R" on the product number tells the story. If its an HP refurb they burn that Code into the BIOS so forever after its an R unit.
Used is used. Like a car. Dealers now say "pre-owned" or previously titled. Just means somebody else bought it new and is now selling it to you after using it or buying it from someone else specifically for resale.
Why, may I know, do you ask? Do you think someone sold you something dishonestly?
