HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs0xxx

When I'm typing a lot, I keep catching the mousepad  with my left hand and it often deletes chunks of text by mistake. Therefore, I'd like to disable the touchpad as and when I need to, but I don't want to completely uninstall it, obviously.

All the instructions I can find to switch it on and off take me down procedures where the buttons I need to click on don't actually exisit!  What do I do now? Please help!
