My synaptics mouse will randomly go into "click lock".
This happens in ANY window with a scrollbar. Firefox, Windows explorer...doesn't matter.
When it happens, I can still move the mouse but it gets synched with the scroll bar. The scroll bar moves up and down as I move the cursor up and down. Left click becomes inoperative.
I freaking HATE THIS. sometimes I can use keystrokes to get into the "mouse" section of control panel and reset the mousepad. Often I have to reboot the laptop to restore my mouse to normal.
1) This does NOT happen when I'm using an external mouse.
2) I obviously DID unselect "click lock" as an option.
3) I have tried several versions of drivers from HP and Synaptics with ZERO improvement.
4) My O/S, Windows 7 64 bit has always been up to date.
According to Device Manager, it's a "Synaptics TouchPad V8.1 on PS/2 Port"
If you like "click lock" then I think you're deranged, but to each his own. I don't like it, I don't want it, and I just want to get RID OF IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IS there some registry ket I can disable to kill this? I've tried everything else I can think of...and unless I can fix this issue I'm trading this POS in for a Dell.

Hi @blainsbrains,
Thank you for posting. I have read your post, and I understand that you want to disable the click lock. I would like to help with that.
You can disable the horizontal and vertical scrolling. Below is a document will help. In the part of Adjusting TouchPad horizontal and vertical scrolling in Windows 7:
HP Notebook PCs - Using and Configuring the TouchPad (Windows 7 and Vista)

Thanks for your response.
I forgot to mention that I accessed the mouse settings through control panel and unchecked "click lock" and I disabled all mouse gestures.
I thought that would permanently resolve the matter. Will disabling it in Windows (if possible at this point) help?
I was under the impression the mouse driver console was senior.

Thanks for the advice, but that's those are the same options I get when I go into the Control Panel, select mouse, and click on the last tab, "device Settings"
How do I escalate this and get more enhanced troubleshooting?
This looks like either a bug in the driver, Windows 7, or a hardware malfunction.

I just fixed this super-irritating problem on my HP Zbook 15 on Windows 10. The fix is on the TouchStyk tab of the mouse control panel, but the UI for it is super non-intuitive.
I wrote up the fix on my personal blog:
