Hi, I have HP 245 G4, which has an AMD A8-7410 processor, and Motherboard - 80C7 KBC Version 98.0E and Win 10 64 bit, which supports up to 16GB of RAM, but on the HP website, it shows it supports only 8GB of RAM (4GB*2). There is a similar model HP 14-af116la, having the same processor, motherboard, and bios, but according to the HP website, it supports 16GB RAM (8GB *2). why is this so?
Can anybody please confirm for me if I can use 16GB on my laptop as well?
Thank you

Hi:
Yes, you should be able to install 2 x 8 GB of memory.
You can confirm this for yourself by doing the following...
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

The 14-afxxx shares its Service Manual with the 245 G4 and they use common motherboards, etc.
The Manual does not say what the laptop CAN have installed; it's a catalogue of how the laptop was configured for sale by HP.
So it has 2 memory slots and the Manual says it can take a single 8 gb module of DDR3L-1600. Therefore, it will take another one in the open slot for 16 gb total.
