I upgraded my old HP laptop from 2007 with a 500 GB SSD about 4 years ago, but must buy a new laptop this year. Everything has been moved to the new laptop and now I want to move the 500 GB SSD to the new laptop, but can't find description/manual for details.

My new laptop has only a 500 GB SSD inside and it should be an empty place for another one.

I need advice for the hardware work and would like to know if it is necessary to do something in Bios.

Anyone?

Your welcome Llars,

Well, personally I do not believe ther will nbe any problem placing the SATA3 drive without following the battery safe mode.  Maybe turn off Windows by holding power button, so that it is not going into some sleep state.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi,

There is room for one M2 SSD and one 2.5"SSD in the ProBook you mentioned. So if you bought it with the M2 SSD there will be room for a 2.5"SSD from old PC. On page 37 of service manual you can see the steps to place the drive in the PC.

Hope it helps,

Thank you, lomare

Now I can do the job without any worries.

Reading about moving out harddrives/ssd it mentioned "Battery safe mode". Is it necessary to do this in my case?

Thank you very much.

I did a simular job, but more complicated 4 years ago because then I had to move windows, programs and data from a 100 MB from a 7 years old HDD to the new 500 GB SSD.

Can the extra SSD give higher heat and need for more use of fans?

Your welcome.

The SSD will produce very little heat and there should be no problem as that model is designed for dual storage.

All the best,

David

I thought the same, but fine to be sure.
