I recently purchased an HP USB-C Essential Power Bank to supplement the battery in my laptop. There is almost no documentation with the product. How do you re-charge the battery? I connected a cable with a USB-C connector on one end and a USB-A connector on the other to the USB-C port on the side of the battery. I connected the USB-A connector to every charger that I have and to the laptop. No lights come on the charger itself and only one status light comes on when I press the status button, no matter how long I leave it plugged in. Do I need to use a cable that has USB-C connectors on both ends and a USB-C charger?

I found that a 65W charger charges the battery and the status lights come on during charging. I used the charger that came with my laptop.

Hi @taherte2
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
To recharge your HP USB-C Essential Power Bank properly, follow these steps, and ensure you are using the correct type of cable and power source:
Steps for Charging:
Use the Correct Cable:
- Ensure you are using a USB-C to USB-C cable for charging the power bank. The USB-C port is intended for power input, and, typically, using a USB-A to USB-C cable might not work for charging due to power specifications.
Connect to a Compatible Charger:
- Connect the USB-C end of the cable to the USB-C port on the power bank.
- Plug the other end of the USB-C cable into a USB-C power adapter. Ensure the power adapter is capable of providing adequate power (ideally at least 5V/3A or 15W for proper charging).
Charging from a Laptop:
- As an alternative, you can charge the power bank by connecting it directly to your laptop's USB-C port if the laptop is plugged into a power source and supports Power Delivery (PD).
Check Indicators:
- LED Indicators:
- The power bank typically has LED indicators displaying the battery charge levels. If only one status light is on, it may indicate that the battery is low and needs to be charged further.
- Observe any blinking lights that might indicate charging activity.
Troubleshooting:
Inspect Cable and Connections:
- Ensure the USB-C cable and charging port are in good condition and securely connected.
Alternate Chargers:
- Try using a different USB-C power adapter if available, as not all chargers might meet the power requirements for charging the power bank.
Check the Power Adapter:
- Verify that the power adapter supports USB Power Delivery (PD) to ensure it can charge the power bank.
Test with Another USB-C Device:
- To rule out issues with the cable or power adapter, try using the same setup to charge another USB-C device.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, there could be a problem with the power bank itself.
Let me know how it pans out.
