I ran out of hard disk space and have purchased a usb 1tb hard drive. how do i configure pc to use the usb drive and stop saving to the c drive?

Just be sure the external usb disk is always plugged in when you power it up. 

 

Easiest and quickest thing is to move the "library" folders (docs, music, downloads, video) over to the external. It needs a drive letter like probably D:\>

Use these suggestions to minimize Windows 10 footprint on the C:\> drive:

Delete apps, turn off hibernation, reduce virtual memory size are the key things. 

 

Windows 10 will not allow most apps other than Windows store apps to be located on any drive other than C:\> is a problem.

Are you going to carry the usb disk with you everywhere you go? A better option is to use an SD card drive...like the storage cards in a digital camera. Your laptop has a dedicated slot for that.

Sorry, The laptop and usb drive stay in desk drawer all the time, i use it as a desktop.
