Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

2 Memory slots are available and on your model only one is used. The Manual says 12 gb is the max but this is not true. It will run 2 x eight = 16 gb or even 2 x 16 = 32 gb DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM.

There is an M.2 slot which will support a PCIe/NVME M.2 SSD which is the best and fastest storage you can get on a consumer laptop. In your case, there is a 1 TB 5400 rpm mechanical drive which is being accelerated by a 16 gb Optane module which is occupying the M.2 slot. Its a bit of a technical challenge to deactivate the Optane and move your software install over onto a smaller capacity M.2 SSD.

Start on p. 33 of the Manual and the internal layout is like this once you get the back cover removed.

red square = HDD blue circle = M.2red square = HDD blue circle = M.2

The memory is under a metal cover. See pp. 43.

With an Optane module you may not want to spend the money and go to the trouble of an SSD upgrade. The room for improvement is a bit limited as an Optane accelerated hard drive performs pretty well. There is however room for substantial improvement if you run Windows from an NVME M.2 SSD.
