HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9X9AV)

I am trying to limit battery charging to 80 percent to extend the battery life. I have to work long hours on PC and keeping battery always fully charged is not desirable. I tried to update softwares from hp. Even bios update is not giving any results. Can any body please help me to do it either by tweaking the pc or some external software to achieve this? Thanks in advance

I was told by hp support team, this is not possible in this model. Horrible if so.

@Rajkuntwar,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Yea, I am afraid that HP laptops don't typically come with built-in software to directly limit battery charging to a specific percentage like 80%...

However, some laptop manufacturers, including HP, have started providing such features as a part of their battery health management utilities. If your HP laptop supports this feature, you might find it in the HP Power Manager software or in the BIOS/UEFI settings. Please follow these general steps to check if such an option is available on your laptop:

  1. HP Power Manager Software: Some HP laptops come with a utility called "HP Power Manager." This utility might provide options to manage battery health, including setting a charging limit. You can check if this software is installed on your laptop and explore its options.

  2. BIOS/UEFI Settings: Some laptops offer battery charging control in the BIOS/UEFI settings. To access these settings, restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (often F2, F10, or Delete) during startup to enter the BIOS/UEFI interface. Look for power or battery-related settings that might include the option to limit battery charging.

  3. HP Command Center (Optional): Depending on your laptop model, you might have the HP Command Center software. This software might include battery management options that can help optimize battery health.

  4. Third-Party Software: If your laptop doesn't offer a built-in option, you might consider using third-party software* that can help manage battery charging limits. Keep in mind that using third-party software can have risks, so make sure to choose a reputable and trusted application.

  5. Check HP Support Documentation: Refer to your laptop's user manual or visit the official HP support website for your specific model. Sometimes, they might release updates or provide guidelines on managing battery health.

Remember, features and options can vary based on laptop models and updates. It's recommended to consult your laptop's user manual (see: User Guide (hp.com)), HP's official support resources, or contact HP customer support for accurate information and guidance tailored to your laptop model.

* There are a few third-party software options that you might consider for managing battery charging thresholds on laptops, including HP laptops. Please note that using third-party software comes with certain risks, so make sure to research and choose a reputable application. Here are a couple of options:

  1. Battery Limiter: Battery Limiter is a third-party software that works on various laptop brands, including HP. It allows you to set a maximum charge percentage for your laptop's battery to help prolong its overall lifespan. You can find more information and download the software from its official website: Battery Limiter

  2. Smart Battery: Smart Battery is another third-party application that lets you set a maximum battery charge percentage. It's designed to work on laptops from different manufacturers. You can find more information and download the software from its official website: Smart Battery

Please exercise caution when using third-party software and ensure that you download them from reputable sources. Also, be aware that the functionality and compatibility of these applications can vary depending on the laptop model and the manufacturer's firmware.

Before using any third-party software, it's recommended to check your laptop manufacturer's official support resources or reach out to their customer support to see if they offer any official solutions or guidance for managing battery charging thresholds.

Kind Regards,

Hi

Even after updating drivers, I don't get battery monitor in BIOS. It simply states optimization of battery enabled, whatever it means. I am puzzled why hp doesn't provide this option in Bios configuration. Is it a rocket science? I purchased hp lap top to have better experience of win11 and office 2021. But extended and continuous use with fully charged battery surely reduces battery life. Let us hope hp understands this basic thing. I had direct chat with so called technical support team of hp. They are useless. I highly recommend not to buy hp if you have to work on it continuously.
