HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought a HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs0xxx from Costco and would like to upgrade the current SATA drive to a M.2 NVMe SSD....

can this laptop HD be upgraded to M.2 NVMe SSD?

Where can I find the manual for this laptop and how do I find the right M.2 NVMe SSD for it? I would like a 256GB or 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD. What is the best recommended HD for this laptop by HP?

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks

Peter

OK..I found out my laptop does hold an M.2 slot. Its just left side above the HD slot. You can see it in the picture..very easy to upgrade from SATA to M.2...This is a great laptop from Costco...super cheap computer for the price and its a little power house too..

My came installed with 12GB of rams, once I upgraded the HD to M.2 its super fast and boot up almost instancely!!!

I am a CAD designer and this little laptop can run Fusion 360 without a hitch or issues. The intergrated graphic card work perfectly in Fusion 360...it took forever to boot into Fusion with the old drive, now with the upgrade it's very quick.

I bought the Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 500GB..

Super easy to upgrade..here are the steps on how to do it. DOWNLOAD THE SAMSUNG Data Migration software FIRST!!!

1. Remove the back cover. Look at the manual for the screws location

2. Plug in the new M.2 drive into the M.2 slot (see the picture). DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREW THAT HOLD THE M2 STICK INTO POSITION. IF YOU DO IT WILL NOT BOOT UP BECAUSE THE BOARD WILL BEND A LITTLE..it took me a long time to figure it out..once I loosen the screw, it work perfectly!!

3. I didn't close the back cover once the M2 was installed..Lay the computer on it side and turn on the laptop  (V Shape)

3. Run the SAMSUNG Data Migration Software

4. Run the software and follow the instructions...The software will clone the HP drive..Once its done close the software and power down the computer.

5. REMOVE the OLD HD...This will remove the old boot drive from the laptop

6. Power on the computer and it shoiuld boot up into the new M2 drive..It will be very quick..check to make sure everything is OK then shutdown the laptop.

7. Put the backcover back on and you are go to GO!

8. I kept the old drive as a back up...I will get an enclosure case for it and use it as spare drive..also as a backup OS system too..

This little computer is a steal if you get it at Costco...Good Luck!

Need the full Model number and/or Product Number to find your Manual.

I got the manual already but it doesn't show the PCIe slot at all...it show the M.2 SSD card in the manual but doesn't confirm if my board has the slot for it or not..it list some M.2 cards so does it mean I can use them?

Most Manuals cover a number of models within a series. Some Pavilion 15 owners have been surprised when they open their laptop after ordering an SSD. Apparently not all have the M.2 connector. Best to open it and check before purchasing a drive.

Was just looking to do this myself, but there's already an optane drive in the M.2 slot. This method still possible you think? Or do I need to figure out how to disable optane before swapping in the new ssd?

I purchased the same Hp laptop (HP Pavilion 15-cs0xxx) that you successfully upgraded to a

512GB M.2 NVMe SSD. Anybody know if a 1TB SSD of the same flavor would work?

The HDD in my laptop is the old fashioned, slow SATA 1TB. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

Thanks

@Andre37

No reason a 1tb ssd wouldn't work.

Thanks for a prompt reply!

The reason I was concerned is that HP in their manual only goes up to 512GB SSD upgrade.

But since you are an expert, I will give it a shot with a1TB and keep all posted.

@Andre37

Usually HP only lists in the manual the configurations they offer in models. I would be very surprised if a 1tb SSD did not work since many have upgraded beyond what the manual states.
