HP Probook 450 G2 core i7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have HP Probook 450 G2 with intel core i7 5500U, I want to upgrade it to add SDD Hard 500 GB without removing original Hard and use both of them.

what will be compatible with it? and which types would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Michele

You're welcome.

On page 38 of service manual you can see how to open service door

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04763183

Insert the SSD in this slot:

450 g2 ssd.PNG

You can then either clone the old hard drive to the SSD by using software such as Macrium Reflect or similar.

I would remove the hard drive, install the SSD. Next perform a clean install of the OS. Here is a guide.

Download media creation tool from Microsoft on PC (on  PC before installing SSD), run and create a bootable pendrive with the OS on it. (there is an explanation on the Microsoft web page on how to create the pendrive). Create the drive with Windows 10 Home 64-bit edition. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to the Internet.

If you choose this option you will need to use the pendrive to perform a clean install of Windows 10. You might need to disable fastboot and secure boot in BIOS (probably not). So, insert the pendrive in the PC and it should boot directly from the drive. If not, turn off the PC by holding the power button. Press the power button and immediately keep pressing ESC until the startup menu appears and then press F9 and choose the pendrive in the boot menu. Once it boots from pendrive follow the procedure to install Windows.

When finished installing allow Windows to completely update and find all or most drivers. You can follow this process by going into settings > Security and update > click on Verify for updates. You might need to reboot a couple of times.

I recommend installing HP support assistant which will help keep your drivers up to date and much more. You can download the latest version from here.

Once completely updated you can go into device manager and see if there are any missing drivers (there will be yellow exclamation mark next to the device). You can find these drivers and software on HP support page for your product.

Hi Michele,

You can insert an M2 SATA3 SSD (the form factor is 2242) which is smaller than the "normal" ones you find in the market.

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-512GB-MTS430S-Solid-TS512GMTS430S/dp/B07MSQMGLT/ref=sr_1_6?keywords...

It is next to the wifi module.

You will need to transfer or reinstall the OS on the SSD for the performance gain.

Hope it helps,

David

I don't know where is the Wifi Module in motherboard, Is it possible to send a screenshot where exactly I can plugin the new ssd hard, and how can I migrate windows into the new hard?

Best,
Michele
