I believe this issue was reported and discussed a few years ago and I wonder if there is any recent information. I have an HP Spectre as noted above running Windows 11. A few years ago I replaced the battery with a non OEM product. It worked for a few years but now there's a problem. The battery will not charge, repeatedly.
1. If I do a deep reset it will charge once and then it will not charge again.
2. The laptop runs fine when the HP Adapter (OEM, brand new) is plugged in
3. the charging arrow is lit when I use either of the two adapter ports.
4. When I run diagnostics it gives a message that its a non HP adapter but I bought a new one without success
5. And I also when tested I get a message that the battery needs calibration though the battery icon says it is 58% charged and the test reported the same.
6. All drivers are up to date.
How should i proceed? Thanks
Arthur

Hi @AStA4,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.
To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?
- Whether the replacement battery you installed was an OEM HP battery or a third-party one.
- If you notice any error codes or warnings in HP Hardware Diagnostics beyond the “non-HP adapter” and “battery calibration” messages.
In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
- Battery Calibration: Since diagnostics flagged calibration, try running the full battery calibration process through HP Support Assistant or BIOS. This can sometimes help the system correctly recognize charge levels.
- BIOS Reset: Enter BIOS (press Esc or F10 at startup), then restore defaults. This ensures charging parameters aren’t misconfigured.
- Power Reset: Disconnect the adapter, hold the power button for 15–20 seconds, then reconnect and try charging again.
- Check Adapter Wattage: Confirm the new HP adapter matches the original wattage requirements for your Spectre model. Underrated adapters may power the laptop but fail to charge the battery.
- Battery Health: Non-HP batteries can sometimes cause recognition issues even if they worked initially. If calibration and resets don’t help, the battery itself may be reaching end of life.
I hope this helps.
