@Murfgreenacres, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Keyboard Issues on HP Computers!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP computer keyboard is experiencing issues where only the numbers are working, but not the letters. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Check NumLock Key

  1. Ensure that the NumLock key is not active. On many keyboards, the NumLock key can change the function of certain keys to numbers only. Press the NumLock key to toggle it off and see if this resolves the issue.

Restart the Computer

  1. Restart the computer to refresh the system. Sometimes a simple reboot can fix keyboard-related issues.

Check Keyboard Connections

  1. If you are using an external keyboard, make sure it is properly connected to the computer. Try unplugging and reconnecting the keyboard or using a different USB port.

Use Onscreen Keyboard

  1. You can use the onscreen keyboard to enter your password and sign in:
    • Search for "On-Screen Keyboard" in the Start menu or press Windows + R and type osk.
    • Use this virtual keyboard to input your sign-in information.

Test with Another Keyboard

  1. If possible, test with another keyboard to determine if the issue is with the keyboard or the computer.

Update Keyboard Drivers

  1. Ensure that your keyboard drivers are up-to-date:
    • Right-click on Start and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the Keyboards section.
    • Right-click on your keyboard and select Update driver.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
