Hp Pavilion dv 9700

I bought a used hp pavilion dv 9700 17 inch.

But it came without any hdd, the seller removed it. I found on ebay replacement adapter and cages. Now i dont find out which seagate hdd i can put into both places which is the maximal? Its quite confusing.

Im new to this.

The HP specs showed it coming with up to a 250GB drive -- but since the old BIOS limit was 120GB, since yours can take 250GB, it can also take any 2.4" laptop drive you can buy.

You should also consider an SSD, since SATA models are the same size as laptop HDDs and use the same connectors. A 500GB SSD can be had online for around $50 these days, so it's a good buy.

You could also consider adding a second drive, an HDD, of 1TB or 2TB -- but unless you really need the space, I would avoid it because it will make the laptop run a lot hotter.

IF there are two connectors, it doesn't matter which one you use when you only use one.

Hi, @Dontpanic84

I will assume that WAWood made a typo on the hard drive dimension of 2.4".

There is no such thing...the standard notebook hard drive is 2.5."

Regarding upgrading that model series' to a SSD.

I do not believe that the models with the AMD processors and Nvidia chipsets will support a SSD.

Not to mention that while the drive is SATA, the drive controller is only IDE.

Only the Intel versions of the dv9700 notebooks have SATA AHCI controllers, and are known to support solid state drives.

Here is the link to the service manual.

HP retired support for that model series since it is more than 10 years old, so if you need help finding drivers for it, please let me know.
