Hp Laptop genneral
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am one of the multitude who got an HP Pavilion with a defective left hinge.  I've managed to keep it together with duct tape and bubble gum.  Need to buy a new machine since I am still windows 7, so not looking for a fix.  Just wondering if Hp still has this issue in their laptops.  I rarely close the lid as it sits on my desk.  Found this whole issue very frustrating, so wondering if I  should switch to a different brand.  Comments appreciated.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Thank you.  However at this point my laptop is much too old (8+) years old to expect a fix.  I was trying to get a feel for the current state of hinges on hp products.  There still seems to be a lot of posts about this issue in the groups.  I was trying to solicit opinions before I decide what to buy.  Perhaps I choose the wrong way to do so.  If so I apologize.
