Hi All,
I bought a Hp pavilion laptop 15-cs3xxx fro. COSTCO. Pretty much from the beginning it would take a long time to start up and then ran very slowly. I recently added a 32gb ram making it a total 40gbs rams. It still not much of a performance improvement. Do you have any advice on why it is slow and how to improve it?
Would replacement the 1t HDD to a SSD make a difference?
Thank you!

Hi @Spichin,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already taken a significant step by adding more RAM, but if the performance hasn't improved as expected, there could be a few other factors contributing to the slowness of your laptop.
- HDD vs SSD: Yes, replacing the HDD with an SSD can make a significant difference in performance. SSDs are much faster than traditional HDDs because they have no moving parts, resulting in quicker boot times, faster application launches, and overall snappier performance. I would highly recommend upgrading to an SSD if you haven't already.
- Background processes: Check to see if there are any unnecessary background processes or programs running on your laptop that could be consuming system resources. You can use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) in Windows to monitor resource usage and close any unnecessary programs.
- Disk fragmentation: Over time, files on your hard drive can become fragmented, leading to slower read/write speeds. You can use the built-in Windows Disk Defragmenter to defragment your hard drive and improve performance.
- Software updates: Make sure that your operating system and all installed software are up to date. Updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes that can help optimize your system.
- Malware or viruses: Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to check for any malware or viruses that could be slowing down your laptop.
- Clean up disk space: If your hard drive is nearly full, it can slow down your system. Delete any unnecessary files or programs and consider moving large files to an external storage device to free up space.
- System optimization: Consider optimizing your system settings for better performance. This could include disabling unnecessary visual effects, adjusting power settings, and optimizing startup programs.
If you've tried all of the above and are still experiencing slow performance, upgrading to an SSD is likely to have the most significant impact on improving your laptop's speed and responsiveness.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
