Pavillion or Omen?
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had to send an Envy 15t back to HP for repairs as it never worked right. Still no laptop after 3 weeks so they issued me a HP gift card to purchase a new one. I have talked to a couple different salesman each telling me something different as far as what I need. I have quite a few 3rd party softwares, I use Photoshop & other editing software, I usually have  a few apps open at the same time & I need something powerful enough for Photoshop to work quickly. I am looking at an Omen & a Pavillion, both customizable. I would really like one with a user removable battery. I couldn't get much info from a chat person either. What specs do I really need? Do I need an ssd for speed? Is an i7 that much better than an i5 or AMD? What kind of resolution is a must? I am guessing I want 16GB RAM. Can anyone help with recommendations? I would like to keep the cost below $1200.

$1200 is a very luxurious budget. For photo and video editing it is not possible to have too much power. You need the best processor and most memory you can buy and a decent graphics card. Does not have to be top of the line video. A solid state drive is also a must have.

The screen should be IPS and at least full hd 1920 x 1080 and a UHD screen is a good idea.

So you need an Intel i7 processor (avoid AMD) and at least 16 gigs of RAM.

This one meets all these requirements and HP has it on sale from $1600 down to $1100.

You will not have to add a thing. i7, 16 gigs, 4k display , nvidia 940MX 4 gig video, and most of all a 512 gig M.2 PCIe hard drive.

Get this one http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-envy-laptop--17t-touch-optional-w0u97av-1 with i7-6700HQ processor its the best one for video and photo editing for more suggestions visit video editing laptops

The problem with that one is it comes with only a 5400 rpm hard drive which will bottleneck video editing and it only comes with Intel integrated video.

Thank you all for your input. I made my decision:

HP Pavilion Power - 15t Quad w/ 2GB gfx touch
1 TB 7200 rpm SATA; 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
Full-size backlit island-style keyboard with integrated numeric keypad (ghost white)
Security Software Trial
16 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB)
Shadow black with ghost white
Intel® 802.11b/g/n/ac (2x2) Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 4.2 Combo
Windows 10 Pro 64
HP Wide Vision HD Camera with Dual array digital microphone (Ghost White) (for Touch)
15.6" diagonal FHD IPS WLED-backlit multitouch-enabled edge-to-edge glass (1920 x 1080)
4-cell, 70 Wh Lithium-ion polymer Battery
Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ (2.8 GHz, up to 3.8 GHz, 6 MB cache, 4 cores) + NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 (2 GB GDDR5 dedicated)

I wish I could have afforded 4 GB GDDR5 & the best monitor but this what I could afford.
