Welcome to our HP User Forum!
Good news for your HP EliteBook 650 15.6 Inch G9 Notebook PC (4D167AV): according to https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_5817979_en-US-1.pdf, your notebook is compatible with the industry standard 2280 M.2 NVMe Gen4 x4 SSD, such as seen here: HP - Compaq EliteBook 650 G9 | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com.
Hope this was helpful.

Hi NonSequitur777, Thank you so much for your response but I don't thinks the information is correct as the 2280 size is for the primary M.2 slot. My guess is that the secondary slot is 2242 as there is about 4 cm from connector to securing screw. It would be nice to have this verified and also can I chose either Gen 3 or 4 for this slot and any capacity?

I found in the link you sent that the secondary storage is as follows
256 GB, M.2 2230 (2nd solid-state drive, only available on models without WWAN)
128 GB, M.2 2230 (2nd solid-state drive, only available on models without WWAN)
That answers the question about the physical size. I am guessing that the capacity sizes are just what HP offer, but maybe I could still purchase a larger size elsewhere.

You are correct: my bad -my information only applies to the primary drive.
