There isn't one provided, because generally there is no need for one.
Boot up a laptop or desktop PC. Connect a USB Type-C cable between the external hard drive and the PC.
Windows 11 should find it will ask you what you want to do. I suggest opening the Windows Explorer.
Locate the external hard drive by its brand name, right click on it and rename it to something that suits you.
Using an external hard drive is just like using a hard disk on a PC. It is storage space.

thanks for responding Erico. I have a new Windows 11 laptop with Edge installed (they say Explorer has been discontinued). I have it on Edge, insert an external drive cord into USB and a folder window shows all my files—no info on how to proceed with transferring to the drive. I have been on the phone all day trying to contact HP, getting the runaround, and being sent to one department after another. very frustrating. any further ideas will certainly be appreciated.

Are you looking for information on how to transfer files and/or directories to an external storage device?
Watch the video below. It is the same for a USB flash drive, cloud storage and any other external storage device.
