HP ENVY x360 - 15z-ar000 CTO (ENERGY STAR)

I plugged a power bank into my usbc port on my laptop and it stopped working, is there a fix? I plugged a powerbank that puts out 100w into a usbc port on my laptop, and the laptop just went dark. I think I fried the electronics. I checked online and it said to hold the power button down for 15 to 20 seconds then plug in the normal power adapter and turn on, but that didn't work. Is there any hope of saving the laptop?

Hi @DarranD,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It sounds like your HP ENVY x360 - 15z-ar000 CTO's USB-C port may have been affected by the 100W power input, which could be more than the port's designed capacity. Here are a few steps to try to determine if the port can be restored:

Power Reset:

  • Shut down the laptop completely, unplug it from any power source, and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds. This can sometimes reset components affected by power surges or issues.

Check Device Manager:

  • Open the Device Manager in Windows and look under "Universal Serial Bus controllers." If the USB-C port is listed with a warning icon (yellow exclamation mark), right-click and select Uninstall device. Restart your computer, and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • Many HP laptops include diagnostics accessible by pressing F2 at startup, which may offer insight into the health of your USB-C port.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Ensure the latest BIOS and USB drivers are installed. You can download these from HP's support site for your specific model.

Use a Different USB-C Device:

  • Try connecting a different USB-C device (like a USB-C drive or mouse) to see if the port responds. This can help identify if it’s a hardware or power-specific issue.

If these steps don’t resolve it, the port may have suffered damage that may need service.

Keep me posted for further assistance

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, the laptop won't boot at all, no signs of life, I tried holding the power button down for an extended period of time, no luck there.
