HP ENVY m7 product number:G6U51UA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop came with 12gb of RAM 2 slots , it has a max of 16gb.

Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Intel i7 451OU cpu  @2.00GHz

slot 1: 8Gb A-Data 1600MHz

slot 2:4Gb Samsung 1600MHz

Can't I just open it up and place two 8Gb cards inside?

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

The memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1.

I would first try to just add a compatible 8 GB memory module to your PC, by replacing the 4 GB chip.

Below is the link to the crucial memory report for your notebook.  They offer compatible memory for sale.

The first 8 GB chip listed should be the one you need.
