I want to swap out my 1 tb drive for an SSD drive but need to know what hardware and software I will need to do so

Hi:
You can replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD.
You can use the existing drive's mounting hardware for the new SSD.
I recommend one of the Western Digital Blue SA510 2.5" drives in a storage capacity that meets your needs and budget.
You have two options to get Windows on the SSD:
1. Buy a USB to SATA cable and clone the existing drive's configuration to the SSD.
You can use a free utility such as Macrium reflect to clone the drive...
You want the software on the left side of the page under the Backup at Home section.
Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition
2. Clean install W10 by making a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
