HP ENVY 16 inch Laptop PC 16-h1000 (754F7AV)

I installed a second SSD, Kingston KC3000 2TB. The laptop randomly detects it or not – sometimes the drive is not visible in Windows and I have to restart the laptop few times for it to appear. I checked Device Manager and found that in cases when the disk is not detected, the NVMe controller shows an error. When the disk is detected and working normally, there is no error. All my Windows, HP, and BIOS drivers are up to date.

@GregMotyl,

You may check the drive's integrity first.

You can install Kingston SSD Manager utility and check the drive health (Smart Check). You can also update a firmware if available.

Kingston® SSD Manager - SSD health and firmware application - Kingston Technology

Thank you tk_srq I did all of that before. There was no firmware update for my SSD in  Kingston SSD Manager. Once the drive is detected all check say it's 100% fine, integrity check is passing. When it's not detected  Kingston SSD Manager tells me there is no Kingston drive at all and therefore nothing to check.
So bottom line is Windows randomly detects (or not) my drive and I have to reboot few times to be able to use it.

OK maybe, you need to work on the NVMe controller driver next.

When the NVMe controller shows an error, right click the driver and click on 'uninstall device' and restart. Windows will reinstall an NVMe controller driver for the Kingston drive.

If this doesn't fix the problem and you see a newer version of Intel chipset driver on your drivers support page, you can install it.
