I would like to upgrade my HP Envy laptop to 32GB RAM. My device HP ENVY x360 - m6-aq003dx looks like it will work on 32 GB RAM but I am not sure its is compatible. Any opinions on this? Has anyone upgraded their laptop to 32GB?

HP ENVY x360 Specifications

Hi, @Talhabinfareed

According to the Crucial memory report for your notebook it indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB.

HP - Compaq ENVY x360 m6-aq003dx | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com

What I recommend you do is this:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

The command prompt shows given data:

MaxCapacityEx

Then you should be able to install 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-2400 memory.

You may want to try installing one 16 GB chip and adding it to the 8 GB chip first to see if the notebook runs fine, and reports 24 GB of memory.

if it does, you can install the second 16 GB chip.

Hello @Talhabinfareed and @Paul_Tikkanen

From my short experience with HP, I can say that not all the information in HP service manual is correct. Crucial.com does not always tell the truth either, but Intel's information is usually correct. The tip from @Paul_Tikkanen was good with wmic command. So my answer with 32 GB was correct and confirms information from Intel...

Then let's hope that RAM modules used are also recognized. These should be in the best case from same manufacturer.

Good luck

Hi, @ub6424

Sorry, but you can't just go by what the Intel processor specs state.

Here is a discussion where it shows that the Intel processor memory specs can be incorrect.

Solved: What is the maximum RAM that I can install in my HP 15-dw100... - HP Support Community - 844...

Best to play it safe and run the memory report I posted.

And even with that, there is still no 100% guarantee it is correct, but at least you got the information from the actual notebook's SMBIOS.

That's the best one can do.

Hello @Paul_Tikkanen

I agree with your statements. There is indeed no 100% guarantee. One or the other trial/test can bring enlightenment...
