Hi:

HP only has the service manual for the older 15-dw0xxx model series on your notebook's support page.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC

What model Intel processor does it come with?

Notebooks with the Intel core processors have two memory slots and can support up to 2 x 8 GB of memory.

Notebooks with the Intel Pentium or Celeron processors have one memory slot and can support up to 1 x 8 GB of memory.

You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Hi Paul Thanks for your reply, did as you suggested (after the laptop spent nearly 45 minutes trying to sort itself out!!), result from the check was 16,777,216 which turns out to be 16. Think I will definitely be investing in more RAM very soon. Thanks again for your help.

You're very welcome, Bob.

Remember, that if your notebook has an Intel Celeron or Pentium processor there is only one memory slot and if that report is telling you that 16 GB is supported, then you would need to remove the 4 GB memory chip and install a 16 GB memory chip.

Hi Paul The Device Specification shows the processor is a Intel(R) Celeron(R) N4020 CPU @ 1.10GHz. So I think I will take the back off and confirm the number of memory slots before going out and buying the extra RAM

That certainly would be a way to be sure of how many slots it has.

I'm 99% sure that since your notebook has an Intel(R) Celeron(R) N4020 processor, you will find only one memory slot.

The specs on the processor on the Intel website indicate that max memory supported is 8 GB.

Intel Celeron Processor N4020 4M Cache up to 2.80 GHz Product Specifications

So, either the memory report you ran thinks the notebook has two slots (there will probably be circuitry there for a second slot), or the Intel specs are wrong.

Hi Paul

Just to muddy the water a bit I found this Del Laptop

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09H617TCP?tag=cpubenchmark-20&linkCode=osi&th=1

which says that it has 16gb RAM - It appears to have the same processor

Strange

Hi, Bob:

It definitely muddies the water up.

This is what I found regarding that model.

Inspiron 15 3510 Setup and specifications (dell.com)

Page 11 indicates it has one memory slot and supports up to 8 GB of memory.

It seems to me that even though 16 GB is not listed as supported by Dell, HP or Intel, you can install a 16 GB memory chip and it will work for some reason.

Anyway, open it up and check.

If you want to take a chance on a 16 GB memory chip (which may not be such a big gamble after all), this would be the one I recommend:

Crucial 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT16G4SFRA32A | Crucial.com

You can buy the same chip on the Crucial.UK website:

Crucial 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT16G4SFRA32A | Crucial UK

Or Amazon.UK:

Crucial RAM CT16G4SFRA32A 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Laptop Memory, Green : Amaz...

Hi Paul

Thanks for your help with this, I will look inside and see how many slots there are. If only one then I may well do as you suggest and try a 16, if it works great - if not then try an 8 and try and sell the 16.

Life was never this complicated when i got my first computer - a Commodore 64 - we were amazed that 64kb of memory could run games like Donkey Kong!!!

Again thanks for your help with my problem, have a good day and look after yourself

LOL!

You enjoy the rest of your evening too, Bob.

Please post back and let us know how your notebook's memory upgrade project went.

4 GB of memory is definitely not enough memory for W10/W11 and programs.

Cheers,

Paul
