DDR4 systems will generally run 32 gigs. I am not aware of any laptop maker that supports 32 gigs of DDR3 in 2 x 16 gig modules.

Looking at buying an Envy 17-t.   I do a fair amount of virtualization and the quad core solution (even the 8550)  is perfect.  However, the 16GB RAM per DIMM slot limitation seems odd given that this is a BIOS upgrade at most especially given that you already have laptops with 32G+ (2x16GB 2400 MHZ DIMMs).   Is there a way to upgrade the BIOS  on this?  BTW, it is nice that you have the 1TB SSD options as well!

You want to install modules bigger than 16 gigs per slot? Wow must be nice to be in the top 1%; memory is real expensive right now. No, 16 per slot 32 gigs is the limit and even that is unofficial. If you call the HP support people they will say it is 8 gigs per slot for 16 total.

Oops.. yes, I did not articulate well.   I am looking to upgrade to 32GB total at least for now.   I said 16GB/slot limitation seemed unnecessary but meant 8GB/slot limitation seemed unnecessary.

8th gen i7 and the 7th gen i7 quad processors are pretty hefty.    32GB or more RAM with that kind of horsepower seems quite reasonable.

I was looking into this a couple months ago.. however, I learned here that our current Bios does not allows more than 16gb (8gb+8gb).

Might depend on model but there are resellers offering HP laptops with 32 gigs RAM:

https://www.amazon.com/HP-OMEN-15-UHD-GeForce/dp/B01J8XI5U6

This is the 15-ax000 series (I happen to have one as an HP loaner but have not seen the need to upgrade beyond 16 gigs).

Omen 15-ax000 Service Manual

On page 4 it says:

Supports up to 16 GB max system memory

So, if the BIOS caps it at 16 gigs how are people selling it with 32 gigs? The answer is there is no such limit in the BIOS at least on the Omen so please share how you learned the BIOS is limited to 16 gigs?? My own observation says there is no such limit for any model using an Intel Core processor and DDR4 memory.

Please note some on-line shops offer HP Envy 17 with 32Gb RAM:

Is it possible it doesn't work?

Has anyone successfully upgraded the HP Envy x360 m6 aq103dx to 32GB? My laptop is begging for more RAM so my CAD program can render in higher quality. My machine came with just 12GB (1-8GB and 1-4GB) and I know it's easy to upgrade to 16GB by replacing the 4 with an 8. But 32GB would be SO much better! The cost of RAM is a whole lot better than the cost of a different machine (and face it, I'm cheap). Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Thank you in advance!

Intel Core 7th or 8th gen + DDR4 and you can upgrade to 32 gigs. You are still looking at about $350 for 32 gigs and with an i5 low voltage processor I just don't want to endorse your theory that 32 gigs is going to make the laptop perform the way you want. If you are running a mechanical hard drive you might get a better bang for the buck with an SSD. CAD needs memory fast storage and a good processor so not sure where the right mix is for you. Most people who know would say a serious CAD machine needs an i7 Quad.
