As another update from an HP probook 640 G1 owner, the M.2. Slot does not fit 42mm M.2. SSD's that are double sided by defualt, due to the screw that holds it in is too wide. I tried to put an ADATA 256gb 2242 SP900 SSD in, but the memory chip prevents the screw going back in to secure it in place.

However, this was resolved by taking a dremel to said screw and making it much less wide. Double Sided SSD is installed and working at full speed (about 500MBs read and write). This could also be resolved by finding a different screw, or just finding a single sided SSD.

Could you possibly post a pic of this install? I am looking at the m.2 online and it doesn't look like it will fit. I have previously installed a Mydigital m.2, but to look at that one before buying a new one would be too much of a hassle (Asus did not make that install easy).

Go to message 6 of this thread and look at the second link. The position of the slot is circled in blue. This is exactly the same slot that the WWAN module uses in some of the higher end business models. If you have a WWAN Broadband card installed you will have to remove it. If you have a Philips screwdriver in hand, the actual install should take less than 5 minutes.

Good luck,

G.

There is a second port. All you lose is your ability to use broadband (phone company wireless stuff).

I replaced my HDD with a Samsung 850 SSD, tried it in two identical units, and both are having extremely high operating temps.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?
