The screen no longer works on my laptop (hasn't done for a while) and I've been using external monitors. I don't really have a use for the lid anymore as the screen doesn't work and I rarely transport the laptop anywhere.
Is it possible to remove the lid and still have a functional computer? I want to tuck it out of the way under my desk but still be able to access the power button!

Hi,
Yes, it is possible to do, you can remove the screen cable from the motherboard. The Wifi antennas if you use them, you can stick somewhere where you tuck away the PC.
If you provide the exact model or product number we can take a look at the service manual and see what kind of solution is best. Here is how to find it:

You could also repair the screen if you still want to use as laptop. New panel probably not too expensive.
Hope it helps,
David

It might work, but the lid is where the Wi-Fi antennas are located. The power button should be located on the keyboard/palmrest area. There are also replacement screens available on Amazon as well, if you want to replace it. If the warranty is still good, use it to get the computer repaired. Otherwise, you will need to take apart the laptop apart so that you can connect the new screen to the motherboard. There are videos on YouTube that show how to take it apart. I think you could also move the lid to where it lays flat...

Hi. You're welcome.
Let.s take a look at the repair
The part number for the screen is 681817-001
you can search online with the part number for a compatible screen
Example:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=681817-001&_sacat=0
On page 68 (point 5) and page 69 (point 7) of the service manual, you can see the steps to replace the display panel.
To completly remove the screen page 66 of service manual. You could first dismantle the screen and remove the wifi antennas which you can see on page 72 of service manual. they have some double sided tape on them.
Service manual:

Hope it helps,
