OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop 16-n0000 (63B18AV)

I am setting up my new OMEN laptop and have so far found the trackpad sound to be quite annoying so I was wondering if it is possible to the sound off or if the clicking sound is just a feature of the laptop. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @TomEgremont,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The clicking sound you hear when using the trackpad on your HP OMEN laptop is likely the result of a physical mechanism within the trackpad itself, known as a "clickpad." This is common in many laptops and is designed to mimic the tactile feedback of pressing a physical button when you click on the trackpad. While some people find this feature useful, others may find it annoying, especially if they prefer a quieter experience.

To address this issue, you can try the following steps to see if you can reduce or turn off the clicking sound:

Adjust Trackpad Settings:

  • Go to your laptop's settings or control panel.
  • Look for the "Mouse" or "Touchpad" settings.
  • There should be an option to adjust the sensitivity and click settings for the trackpad. You might be able to reduce the sound by adjusting these settings.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure your laptop's trackpad drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes, driver updates can include options to control the trackpad behavior.

Use an External Mouse:

  • If the clicking sound still bothers you after trying the above steps, consider using an external USB or Bluetooth mouse instead. These typically do not produce clicking sounds.

Remember that completely disabling the clicking sound on the trackpad might not be possible without physically modifying the trackpad, which is not recommended unless you are very experienced with laptop hardware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
