is there any way  to tell if my  battery when bad?  --- I had the laptop running for a few hours now and the  "windows mobility center" still read the battery at 0%

Hello — Thanks for your reply — I was ran the battery check test from within the support assistant. I start, then graphic was showing a “drain down” and before it got to the bottom the process just stopped and reported “unknown” This is an old battery – years old and my guess is that its been off for time. I replaced the battery with another from a similar computer and that battery worked. — So my best guess is that the first battery just when bad. This computer is circa 2010 — so it just time to replace it

I followed the noted url and installed that tool. The replacement battery tested OK — thanks for your help — Just a curious question – why does HP drop stocking laptop batteries it seems just a few years after new laptop are added to the product line?
