Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?
HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Intel i7-8550U, 1.8Ghz cpu,  16GB ram, 512 SSD, 17-inch 3840x2160 res. screen,  HP ENVY 17t bw000 CTO laptop.

After 5 years of trouble-free use, I start to get the message "weak battery" -- during restarts and HP Support Assistant diagnostics.

1 - is the battery replaceable, and if so, what is the best way to do it?   The battery is not one of those easily detachable ones, it requires opening the laptop and is not something the ordinary user can do (I think).

2 - My last laptop ran for 11 years without any hardware problems until the battery died -- and even after the battery gone, it continued to function well as long as it is directly plugged to a power source.  I wonder why this one isn't quite the same.

3 - Would appreciate advice on whether it is better to have the battery replaced, or buy a new one.

Many thanks.

The battery is 100% replaceable, but on your model the work is a bit difficult largely because of the rubber strips. They are tough to remove and get back in place. This is your battery:

3-cell, 52-WHr, 4.55-AHr, Li-ion battery L09281-855

Its not terribly expensive:

Yours is still a competent laptop if you do ordinary computer tasks like most people. Even if you pay a technician $100 in labor (too much but they might hit you with a price like that) $150 +/- invested in another 2-3 years of use compared to maybe $1200 for an equivalent new unit: you get the picture.

My sincerest thanks Mr. Huffer -- based on HP website recommendations for service I will consult the nearest BestBuy store in my area and get their feedback on replacing the battery.

Thanks again!
