I purchased this recently as a HP Certified refurbished :

HP Notebook 17-cn0065cl Product number 52V01UAR#ABA

Stock, it has a 512GB Solid State Drive and 16M384MB (2X8GB) DDR RAM

Questions:

1>   Can I upgrade the 512GB SSD with a 1TB 2.5" form factor SSD?

2>   What are the specs for (What I think) the current SODIMMs that are installed from the original build?

I am very satisfied with the machine as purchased, but I would like a little more oomphffff.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance rendered by the Community.

Yes on both counts according to your Service Guide  2x16 GB of PC3200 DDR4 will work fine. I'd strongly suggest using Crucial vanilla ram, not the Ballistic line. HP does not support any XMP profiles for higher performance ram, so avoid any performance type ram, as you'll be returning them after you find out they don't work.

You can go here Crucial Advisor and either enter your model number or install their system checker to find out what is guaranteed compatible with your laptop,

With todays pricing falling on ssd's, consider getting a 2TB ssd. Another link for you is the Product Specifications  where it says PCIE NVMe™ M.2 SSD, unclear if it is gen 3 or 4, although service guide lists a thermal pad for the m2 ssd, those are used for gen 4.

I just reread your post where ypou asked if you can "1>   Can I upgrade the 512GB SSD with a 1TB 2.5" form factor SSD?"

Short answer is yes and no. You can add storage with a 2.5" SATA ssd leaving your existing m2 boot drive the same. If the laptop didn't ship with a 2.5" drive with the m2 boot drive, then you'll have to purchase a cable for it, HP part  M75893-001.

There are more variables to consider like SATA interface is really slow compared to NVME 3 or 4. Fine if just used for storage, pics videos movies music etc. etc that use a lot of space can be store on it and it would be fast enough.

If this is what you are considering, there's a fairly simple way to link your documents, downloads, music, movies folders to use the 2nd storage drive so you can keep them there. See here https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-libraries-windows-10#add_location_library_windows10
