Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?
HP Recommended

I recently purchased a second-hand HP Elitebook 840 G8 Notebook PC, which seems to have an aluminum body. Every time I plug it in to charge, I can feel a mild electric shock, usually around the edges of the laptop. This sensation only occurs when the charger is connected—not when the laptop is running on battery alone.

  • The issue has persisted for nearly three months since purchase.

  • The shock feels mild but is noticeable, especially when touching the metal edges.

  • There is no such sensation when the laptop is not charging.

What could be causing this, and what steps can I take to resolve it? Thank you.

HI @swapniltayde ,

It is very unfornate you are experiencing with new unit .The tingling sensation you're experiencing when your HP EliteBook 840 G8 is plugged in may be related to the use of an ungrounded AC adapter or a poor electrical grounding situation. Here are a few steps you can take to address this issue:

Potential Causes:

  1. Ungrounded or Incompatible Charger: Using a charger that is not properly grounded or compatible with your device can cause this sensation.
  2. Poor Electrical Grounding: This might occur if the electrical outlet you are using has a poor or faulty ground.

Recommendations:

  • Use a 3-Prong Grounded AC Adapter: Ensure that you are using the original HP 3-prong grounded AC adapter that is designed for your notebook, as it helps reduce electric current leakage. Avoid using third-party adapters.
  • Check Electrical Outlets: Test the outlet with another grounded device or consult an electrician to ensure that it provides a proper ground.
  • Avoid Using Adapters or Extensions: Directly plug the power adapter into the wall outlet without using any extensions or adapters that may disrupt the grounding.
  • Best Practice  : Immediately HP team should be involved to address the issue as any delay might be hazardous for your health.

    Hope this answer your question.
