HP PAVILION NOTEBOOK - 15-X
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a "HP PAVILION NOTEBOOK - 15-P157CL (ENERGY STAR)" and after I didn't use it for three weeks now my battery is not working anymore, it says it is at 0% and doesn't charge. When I turn on the pc I get a message on black screen saying:

HP Battery Alert

The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low.

For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.

Primary (internal) Battery (601)

ENTER - Continue Startup

For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup

I tried to run battery scan from HP support assistant and it says that it cannot connect to the battery.

I tested the battery from the PC Diagnostics (as in http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00821536)

The component test failed and the failure ID is 0U2N63-70P8AU-MFPV6J-C0B503

The main output of the test is: Main Battery - Replace (42)

The PC runs with no issues on AC only so it's not an adapter or AC power supply problem.

I already updated the BIOS and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and it didn't help.

Do you think the problem on the battery can be solved?

If not, could you suggest me where I can find the correct replacement?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I also cannot locate it on an Official Store, but other than paying more for it I cannot understand why that would be preferable.

Confirming this is the battery:

(19) 4 cell, 41-Wh, 2.8-Ah, Li-ion battery 728460-001

This is the battery shipped from Hong Kong to Italy:

The battery you linked above is "compatible"...that means made by a third party. The one I linked is "genuine", made by or under the direction of HP. Compatible batteries are OK; they will work but I prefer to steer people to genuine batteries. I do buy compatible for older laptops where price is the primary driver.

How old is the battery?

HP Recommended

Around 2 years and 3 months and up to now it never showed any sign of malfunctioning or decreased performances, or at least not any that I could notice.

You have come to the end of a normal life expectancy for the battery. And they often just up and die without much warning. Where do you live (country)?

HP Recommended

Thanks for the answer, therefore I won't put any more effort in trying to get the battery working again. I currently live in Switzerland but I purchased the laptop in Italy since I was living there at that time.

Do you know whether I could buy a replacement from HP?

HP Recommended

Possibly...they offer replacement batteries for some recent models. You can also buy genuine batteries from an HP Partner or other reputable vendors on places like eBay for much, much less money

(17) 4-cell, 41 WHr, 2.8A H Li-ion battery 756743-001

I checked the HP Parts store Italy and it is out of stock there.

New genuine shipped from USA to EU.

I actually realised that my model was instead "HP Pavilion 15-n213sl PC (ENERGY STAR)" (product number F9E25EA) and my battery is a 4-cell, 2800 mAh, 41 Wh, 14.8V with product number 728460-001.

However on HP stores I cannot find the part itself or the possibility to ship it to Italy or Switzerland. And on other sources like amazon or ebay I find a lot of parts labelled 728460-001 but with slightly different characteristics (and I couldn't find a more precise specification of the battery mounted on my laptop), sometimes dimensions sometimes capacity (and again sometimes they cannot be shipped to Italy or Switzerland).

Do you think there's no chance to find this battey on an official store?

And if not, do you think that every battery labelled with 728460-001 (like this one https://www.amazon.de/BLESYS-HSTNN-UB5M-HSTNN-UB5N-HSTNN-IB5S-HSTNN-YB5M/dp/B01HZ636TS/ref=pd_sim_sb... looked promising to me) will suit my PC?

Thanks a lot again.
