  1. HSA tells me there's a firmware update available (v. 1.10.00).
  2. Tell it to download and install, which it does. Reboots. Finishes. I reboot again.
  3. Check device manager. Version still says 1.9.2. I'm thinking, "It didn't take."
  4. Soooo, I download the update from HP and run it manually.
  5. Asking me if I really want to update from 1.10.00 to 1.10.00.

What's the story here? Can you understand how confusing this is to your customers?

No, I'm not about to spend my valuable time harvesting a bunch of system information for you.

FIX YOUR CRAP.

Hi @MSStateDawg,

I understand the confusion here, especially when HP Support Assistant says an update is available, the update appears to install successfully, and then the version information seems inconsistent.

For the HP Elite x360 1040 14-inch G11, the system uses the HP W90 System Firmware package. HP's firmware packages for this model are published specifically for the Elite x360 1040 G11.

Based on what you've described, it sounds like there may be a version-reporting mismatch between HP Support Assistant, the firmware package, and Device Manager rather than necessarily a failed installation.

The important point is that if the manual HP installer is now showing:

Current version: 1.10.00
New version: 1.10.00

Then the installer itself is detecting 1.10.00 as already installed. In that situation, I would not run the firmware update again.

I would recommend checking the firmware version directly in the BIOS:

Shut down the notebook.

Power it on and repeatedly press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.

On the BIOS/System Information screen, check the BIOS/System firmware version.

Compare that version with what Device Manager reports under Firmware > HP W90 System Firmware.

If the BIOS also shows 01.10.00, then the update has most likely completed, and the remaining discrepancy is simply how the version is being reported by the different HP/Windows components.

If BIOS shows a different version from Device Manager and the HP installer, please let us know what exact version is displayed in BIOS. That will be the most useful information for determining what is actually installed.

Take care and have an amazing day!
