HP Envy 15t-j100
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all!

I have an HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR) and just recently updated Windows 10 on Saturday (a batch of recommended updates), and following the update parts of my keyboard stopped working. The lower three rows of keys work okay, but the top row either 1) keys do not work or 2) keys randomly type other keys (ex. The  "P" key types ' ;  the 5, 6, t, and y keys still work though, the rest don't do anything). I have Windows 10 build 1511 and have connected an external keyboard (both wired and wireless) and the keyboards work fine. I ran a system restore to remove all applications, while preserving my files yesterday with no success or improvement. I have also cleaned the keyboard with compressed air and removed the surface oil (from use) with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. In addition, my updates are currently stuck at 39%. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers for the keyboard through device manager and updated various drivers through the HP Website. I have also done numerous hard resets which have done little to resolve this issue.

Any help to resolve this problem would be much appreciated! I have no idea what to do!

See p. 92. Keyboard replacement is more than a little tricky on this model I am sorry to say. Post back if you need more help.

I think the fact it happened right after a Windows 10 install is a coincidence. The keyboard needs to be replaced. Post back if you want help with a manual and purchase suggestions. Where do you live (country only)?

Thanks for the reply!!!

I though the same thing. I have a keyboard ordered just in case, however, I went to my University's IT service and they informed me that it was likely a driver issue and that I should update my BIOS. I have now been waiting about 2 hours for the HP Support assistant to download drivers and updates to look for a BIOS update. My microsoft updates are still at 39% complete as well.

I also live in the United States (Midwest).

Can you tell what BIOS version you have now? Doubt that is the problem but can't hurt. Probably should try to download it manually. You already reinstalled the keyboard driver.

Below is an image (which I think) displays the BIOS version. Another thing to note, this computer is almost two years old. I ran a system diagnostic last week and everything checked out.

2nd update - my Windows update failed and restarted. updates have now downloaded and installed. I am restarting my laptop now to see if that did anything.

2/5 recommended updates installed. The other three are waiting to download and stuck at 39%. The updates did not help with the keyboard issue either.

F.66 is available. You have F.56.

I seriously doubt this will affect the keyboard but HP is strongly suggesting you install the F.66 BIOS so I would also recommend you do it.

I updated the BIOS to f.66 and updated all Microsoft and HP updates. The keyboard still doesn't work properly. I will replace the keyboard and see if that solves any issues. Do you know where I might find a service manual?
