Took it in this morning. They looked it over and their answer was to replace the keyboard. They forgot that I told them it had been replaced so they said new motherboard needed

If they have only "looked" but not measured or electrotechnically tested, this statement is unreliable and costs more money than you think.

I appreciate your decision to auction off the unit as a "spare parts donor".

I found it "by accident" while searching for spare parts 😉

Buy another good used or new notebook.
