Is it possible and does anyone know where to find a soft touch backlit keyboard upgrade for this laptop?

Hi @guppajoe,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

For your HP 15.6‑inch Laptop PC 15‑fd0000 (B1PW0AV), the answer, sadly, is that it's very unlikely you can simply “upgrade” to a soft‑touch, backlit keyboard unless your specific unit already shipped with a backlit variant.

If your 15‑fd0000 did not ship with a backlit keyboard, trying to upgrade now is likely not worth it — you may end up paying for a keyboard that never lights up because the motherboard lacks the necessary backlight wiring.

Instead, you might consider:

Getting a USB backlit external keyboard (cheap and works well)

If you really need a built-in backlit keyboard, consider getting a laptop whose configuration comes with it by default

I hope this helps.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍
