I have been looking into multiple forums, and my problem still was not solved. my laptop has had this issue recurringly. Every now and then, my laptop just disables my keyboard out of the blue. Sometimes it also disables the mousepad along with it, but sometimes the mousepad works while the keyboard fails. i have tried to hard reset it, but nothing happens. Yesterday I was able to fix the issue by updating the driver on the keyboard, but ever since i got back on i had to use the on-screen keyboard. my laptop will send me notifications as if i am in tablet mode, but my latop physically is in notebook mode. it will say things like 'autorotate on' or have the icon for the on screen keyboard on in the bottom right of my screen on the taskbar. taking the latopin tablet mode and physically flipping it into tablet mode wont do anything either. please help.

@ShoeNinja,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is going to tablet mode automatically.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • What is the exact model for your computer?
  • What is the windows version you are using?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, I recommend you disable tablet mode and check if that resolves the issue.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Click Settings on the Start Menu.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select Tablet mode in the left pane. A Tablet mode submenu appears.
  4. Toggle "Make Windows more touch-friendly . . ." to on to enable Tablet mode. Toggle it off to go to desktop mode.
  5. Select "Don't ask me and always switch" from the "When this device automatically switches" menu if you want Windows 10 to switch modes on your 2-in-1 without prompting you.

If you continue to face the issue, I recommend you install all the Windows updates and test.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!

When was the last time the computer was working fine?

About 3-4 days ago. When my computer booted up the keyboard wasn't working. I managed to be able to fix it by updating the driver for the keyboard, but as soon as I opened up my laptop the next day, it acted as if i had never fixed it. I tried updating my driver again, but it had no affect.

What is the exact model for your computer?

HP ENVY x360 m6 Convertible

What is the windows version you are using?

Windows 10

Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?

I don't think so, could you elaborate?

Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Yes, I troubleshooted for keyboard and tablet mode, but the results said that there was nothing wrong.

While you respond to that, I recommend you disable tablet mode and check if that resolves the issue.

What you suggested me to do did not do anything. When I was talking about my computer acting as if it was in tablet mode, I meant to say was that the laptop itself is not in tablet mode, but it acts as if it was flipped physically into a tablet. My trackpad is also disabled. If I go to settings and set my computer to start up in desktop mode, the trackpad will be enabled, but the keyboard will still be disabled.

I read this post. Thanks for the update. It is great to have you back and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Awesome technical expertise and immaculate attitude are qualities that are admirable. Thank you for displaying these essential attributes.Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For now, please try these steps:

Go to control panel

2. Go to Display

3. Go to Adjust Resolution

4. Be sure "Allow the screen to auto-rotate" is CHECKED.

If this does not work then try this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04856156

Also, uninstall the keyboard in device manager and restart the computer.

Solution 1:

The keyboard in Windows 10 has an automatic detector to disable the keyboard and the trackpad as soon as it becomes a 'tablet'. To access it go to the following menu items:
Control panel (NOT SETTINGS) -> Keyboard (use icons) -> Keyboard Lock -> Auto-Lock the keyboard and touchpad (recommended)
You can use these settings to disable the keyboard in tablet mode.

Solution 2:

Some of the users who had the similar issue have mentioned in some forums that the issue is fixed by adjusting the angle of the tablet. When the laptop is rotated sideways it attempts to switch to tablet mode, even when you have not adjusted the screen angle. The sensing is done by an orientation sensor in the base of the laptop, not in the hinges. So, to turn the keyboard back on and to go to laptop mode try tilting the whole laptop towards you slightly and check.

Solution3

  • If it does not please perform a complete system recovery again to factory settings.
  • Then install the latest version of HP support assistant.
  • Please perform all Windows update again.
  • Then update the Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers  and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Please run the Intel driver utility and update it from the Intel website.
  • Also, ensure that you have the latest bios update by running HP support assistant.
  • This should do the trick for you if there is no hardware issue with the computer.

Solution 4:

Go to Device Manager > System devices > Intel Integrated Sensor Solution and ensure that the driver is enabled.

Solution 5:

Goto path -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation

Check the value of Enable file if it is 0 rotation will be OFF, if 1 rotation will be ON.

Restart and Auto rotation will work.

Note: The lock rotation button in display settings will still be disabled

 Solution 6

Backup your important data and perform a system recovery to factory settings on your computer by following instructions from this link: http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=HPSystemRecovery.net&section=ccweb&os=win10&SFS=sdoc

This should do the trick for you.

If the issue persists, I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Please check your forum private message box next to the bell notification icon on the upper right-hand corner for a private message from me for further assistance.

Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

None of the solution have really helped me. I had seen solution 1 on another thread before, but I was very confused because when I accessed the keyboard through the control panel, there were no options to control the lock of the keyboard and mousepad, if you could describe it more for me then it would be better. Solution 2 didn't do anything. For solution 3 I would much rather have my compter repaired than backup everything. I've already had to do that before, and redownloading everything isn't worth my time. Solution 4 didn't work. I didn't understand anything with solution 5, explain? 6 Is the same as 3. If it would be better to get a repair let me know, unless there is something else
